increased partying means decreased blogging.

today i think it finally happened - i broke. my streak of going out has finally come to an end...well, that's not exactly true considering i didn't go out a few nights this week, but i turned down invitations to go out & about in the city today to just stay home and veg and actually be inside my own head ('cause lord knows there is A LOT of unresolved stuff and things going on in THERE!). and my apt is a MESS, mainly because i'm never here and my clothes have decided to take over my room and if i don't clean that shit up i think i might lose it soon! ahhhhh!!!

i am also in no mood to blog - not that i'm in a bad mood at all, i'm actually in a pretty great mood - but i can't be bothered with life details at the moment...the one thing that i will expound upon is that i saw STEELY MF'N DAN on tuesday night and OH MY GOD if that isn't THE greatest rock 'n roll experience of my LIFE then i don't know what is, can, or will be. they are just so eff'n fantastic! and michael mcdonald came out and sang backup on a few songs, including "peg"!!! OH MY GOD - did i say that already? AHHHHHH. and i didn't even have to go by myself - there were eight of us at the show - eight people who willingly purchased lawn tickets at shoreline to see steely dan, my favourite band. holy shit, i love my friends!!!

luckily i have friends who take alot of photos so i lieu of me actually recounting my recent (mis)adventures, please live vicariously through these loverly photos:

aub's SF nights (last friday)
willo's mission hottness (last saturday)
misty's homecoming @ zeitgeist (last saturday)
the racounteurs @ the warfield (w/ willo)

more recaps of this past weekend's events (promsumating!) to come....

24 hour party people.

yesterday i said that the past two weeks off my life have felt like one big long day & night of continual partying with 8 hours of work mixed in for good measure. i don't really know WHY this is so, but there have been so many awesometastic things to do and see and drink that how could i pass it all up?!? i can't. duh.

granted i have taken some nights off to de-debauch (?) but i've pretty much been going strong since the first unofficial TNDC. why are my friends so AWESOME?!? if they weren't so freakin' rawktacadillydastic, i wouldn't have this problem. arrrrgh, friends! curses!

awww yeah, ladies!

so monday was the subs and lucky 13 (willo's photos here) - tuesday i layed low - wednesday cam talked me into going to happy hour at 111 minna w/ him & teddy which turned into being there until 8:00 pm, making a quick run over to the mission, a meal break at taqueria cancun, and then to lazlo for harryh & alice's party where ALL the party peeps came out in full force and apparently, also all of our tongues:

cam's head is going to explode from all of the awesomeness.

tonguefest 2006.

and more paparazzi moments here and here. hilarious!

tonight's planned evening activities are sure to continue this streak of rockin' good times i've got going on. so yeah, my life does not suck.

52dates?

the dude that writes this blog is apparently a friend of a friend or some sort of acquantaince with aubs. i think he's hilarious. like in a dick sort of way. y'know, like that guy friend you have and keep hanging out with, despite the fact that he's semi-misogynistic and is a bit of a DB, but he's funny and his stories are entertaining and you have fun drinking with him? yeah, that guy.

i think alot of girls would probably be offended with his premise - he's going to go on 52 dates, every girl he gets a number from, in one year. and then he's going to blog about it. but really isn't that what everyone does? he makes a good point that most people go on dates & subsequently tell their friends about those dates - the only difference is that he's telling the entire interweb. and he's keeping the girls anonymous. and his dates are really funny. i say bring it!

it got me wondering if i should do that same - but then i came back to reality and decided that probably wasn't a good idea. i don't want to broadcast all of my dating (mis)adventures on my blog. even though it probably would be pretty comical. because i'm a dating dork, that's why.

i will say that since moving to SF a year and a half ago, dating is HARD. before i moved here, i was all "yeah, big city! boys (geekyfantastic and indie rock) everywhere! i'll be in heaven!" uh, notsomuch. it's not hard to meet boys here, but it's hard to date them. and it makes sense - there are alot of cute, smart, funny, and awesome girls in san francisco (despite what mr. 52dates might have to say) - why would any guy decide to date just one girl? he wouldn't. and he won't. yeah.

i've recently had a discussion with one of my boy (space) friends about how my "friend zone" has "really high walls. with a moat. with alligators. and fire. and ninjas." essentially impenetrable once banished. heh. and this might be true. but i also get lumped into the friend zone more often than not. and this has been the case for my entire life. i cannot tell you how many times i've met some potentially* great guy, sort of dug him, and then he just wants to be friends. i'm just that kinda girl. the kind that induces awww shucks friendly-type feelings in boys.

but hey, it could be worse. it's not like i'm doing too awfully bad for myself, and going on dates is fun. just don't expect to hear details on THIS blog.

two peas in a podcast.

that was the funny geek pun i made to cam yesterday and then he christened me a comic genius. okay, that really didn't happen. but you have to admit it's pretty cute, yeah?

at 5:23 pm PDT yesterday cam said he was departing his workstead to meet up with w/ courtney p. in the sunset (the SUNSET?!?) for some pho, and i said "i heart = pho!" and invited myself along. we were all meeting up at cafe du nord later for the submarines show, so i thought what the heck, i need to waste 2.5 hours after work and what better way to do that than with cee-dub and some pho? PHUN! omg. hahaha.

after dinner cam & i went to lucky 13 to continue our streak of drinking every single day (not sunday though) and the ryan king met up with us. word. here i am again, with the man clan! then i had to go to du nord to make sure the list was properly populated (and it wasn't, of course) and THEN all of my wonderful friends starting piling into the rock club and it was good times USA once again. i feel like my life has turned into one big long party. and that's not really so bad.

first band up was let's go sailing - they were cute! not that many people were listening to them, but it was also 9:00 pm on a monday night and yeah, you'll have that. next up was the submarines! yay! they totally rocked it. and i'm not just saying that because my ability to eat and pay rent is 33% their responsibility. they are awesometastic. everyone loved them - they were cute and witty and of course, rockin'. man, my job is cool.

i was totally not paying attention to the third band, bedroom walls. oops! i got distracted by friends and business associates. eek. i learned how to "settle up" and after receiving two threatening text messsages from patrons of lucky 13, i finally got my arse over there to party it up a little more - drinks were had, hugs were plentiful, and lots of crazy photos were taken. although, not by me. so we'll have to wait on those...

mondays are HARD. heh.

ryan king fan club.

i LOVE this photo tantek took at the party friday night. too cute! ha.

ryan & i gaze adoringly at each other. hee hee.

sunscreen is for wimps. and the irish. and now - me.

i am a fair lady - not "my fair lady" - but i am of the PALE variety. which is why i should know that i need to wear sunscreen when i decide to hang out in the park for four hours in the middle of the day. but apparently i'm an idiot b/c i did the exact opposite of that on saturday and now my poor little back is a shade of scarlet it should never, ever, EVER be. urgh. blame it on my norweigan ancestors - stupid vikings.

but i'm getting a little bit ahead of myself...before saturday sunburn day there was the friday night valleyschwag hoedown dance party USA 2006. luckily my friends took alot of photos (cam, aubs, ryan, teddy g) because the shenanigans are a bit hazy at times. i do remember giving out alot of hugs and declarations of love to my friends - but that's nothing new. heh. and there were some random, shirtless men running around. yeah, i have no idea what that was about either.

__________

saturday morning we went to brunch at the pork store (where i had salmon, ‘cause I don’t dig on swine) and then to dolores park for some frisbee and sun action. awwww yeah. after the park i ran home to indie-fy myself for the birdmonster show (see post), where i rocked out with wild abandon. i can't believe i just condensed 16 hours of action into three sentences. heh.

__________

sunday ryan, cam, teddy, and i went to pizzetta 211 for yummy brunch and then met up w/ aubs & tantek for the oh in ohio (sooo cute & hilarious – i lurve parker posey and paul rudd is adorable! yum.) then it was home for some rockin’ out (i need my 2.5 hours of musical intake per day) and geekin’ out. schaweeet.

i wish this blogpost was more entertaining but i lost it the first time i wrote it and of course i can’t replicate my witty prose to it's fullest extent upon a second go at it. urgh. damn you technology! just kidding, i love you. awwwww.

don't even get me started...

last night ryan, justin, cam, buzz, and i went to the birdmonster show at bottom of the hill. they were fabulous, as always - energetic, rawktacular, kick ass, awesometastic - i could go on and on and on and on and - okay, you get the picture. there was banjo action, hat action, justin playing bass on his back action - all in all ROCKIN'. so good to see my boys, back home and at my favorite venue. WORD.

i do, however, have to break from my traditionaly forgiving and understanding criticism to say that i did not, at all, not even for a minute, like the first band, anaura. i tried not to be judgemental of the band's appearance (a polo shirt and abercrombie-esque jeans? why don't you just put on the flip flops to complete the DB uniform? heh.) b/c how you look shouldn't dictate how you sound (although, the second band, triple cobra - put on one hell of a show and totally looked the fantastically trashy & glam part.) and bagel ted said that he liked what he had heard from the EP that they sent him. i had medium-high hopes. after the first song, i was like - well, maybe i'll like the next song. but each song kept getting progressively more painful for me to bear. the singer gave off the air of being a complete DBMF - and maybe he's a nice dude, but his stage presence totally annoyed me. he made ironic guitar faces (or maybe not intentionally ironic) but couldn't pull it off. all i kept thinking to myself during their set was "college rock band on a tuesday night at a buffalo wings bar & restaurant". it's not that their musicianship was horrible - their bass player was actually quite good and he was the only thing i liked about the whole band - but their songs were like O.A.R. light. ewwwww. there were some brief hopeful moments - from what i think i can recall - but nothing could persuade me to take a liking to them. NOTHING. maybe they're just not my bag - and maybe i was just comparing them to what i knew was coming up (the bird. the monster. the birdmonster.) or maybe i've finally become a cynical music snob - but given the reaction of my fellow show goers, i wasn't the only one....

adolescence 2.0?

aubs just wrote a really fantastic blogpost about how those of us in our late 20's are now in what should be called adolescence 2.0 - i'd go into further detail, but she sums it up so perfectly that i won't even try....

for example:

IM has replaced note-passing, insecurity (guised with cockiness) is at an all-time high, and our emotions are a-flutter. We're smack-dab in those years before we hit our third-life crisis, and, in preparation, we drink too much. We make stupid decisions. We're pushing our boundaries because, for us single late-twenty-doms, we can.

and...

We have crushes. No, not one, nor two; more like ten....We find ourselves giddy with the excitement of a new interest (or, as is often the case, interests squared), something seemingly foreign after years of long-term relationships that left us wondering if "IT" was ever going to happen...now, "IT" seems far, far away in the distance and for the first time in a long time, who cares! We're having fun!

i've totally been going through a very "hi, i'm 12 years old" relapse lately - and i couldn't figure out why. now i know...it's 2.o!

you can (and should) read the whole post here. it's a classic!!! heh.

retro-blogging.

so i totally forgot to post about my adventures with the parental units when they were here!

it was their first visit to san francisco, so i was psyched to show them around. and so that they could see why i love this city so much! they arrived thursday afternoon and i met them at their hotey for happy hour cocktails (awww yeah, my parents now how it's done!). we made a quick pit stop at mi casa so they could see that i don't live in a shack and then it was off to dinner at my favorite thai restaurant - little thai! when we got to the restaurant, there weren't any tables free, so they let us sit at the bar and wait, where one of the servers/managers totally fawned all over my parents and kept telling them about every single dish that came out of the kitchen and let us have free "samples" of the drinks. score! my parents thought i was a rock star. haha.

__________

friday after work i again met my parents at their hotel for happy hour (hey, it was friday) and then we went to la mediterranee for dinner. yummmm. so good! my mom had never partaken of genuine greek fare, so it was super fun to make her eat a whole bunch of stuff. yeah mom, dooo it! after dinner we were sort of worn out, so we made a quick stop into one of the jazz clubs on fillmore and then headed to my house, where we watched the food network (hi, my stepdad obviously had control of the remote) and i fell asleep on the couch w/ my mom. awwwww.

__________

it was a good thing i went to bed early b/c i had to get up at the crack o' saturday and make my way down to meet my parents for bruch at market bar @ the ferry building. i had never been there, but had heard good things about it, so i figured what the heck. plus, i thought it would be neat for the parents to see the farmers market and enjoy the lovely weather. after scrumptous brunch we walked to pier 39 to catch our ferry to alcatraz! now, normally i am not excited about touristy things, but i've been waiting to go to alcatraz for a year and a half. it's totally a parent thing to do.

alcatraz was really cool - the audio tour is done really well and it's super interesting and neat. haha, neat. it's really windy and cold though, so bring a jacket or a sweater should you ever decide to go. um, a public service announcement by ali watkins. yes.

after we got back to the mainland, it was time to quicky run home and change for dinner at tsunami sushi with willo, misty, hez, and jojo! yay! parents-meet-the-friends-dinner!!! it was so much fun - and yummy delicious. we got my mom to eat her very first piece of sushi, after much coaxing. and my friends got to hear embarassing stories about yours truly growing up. nice.

saturday night we already had plans to go to the band of horses show at the independent, so my parents made their way back to their hotel to hit up some jazz and blues bars and willo & i made our way over to the independent - after a quick pit stop at fly bar to meet up w/ brian, we got to the indy just in time to catch the first opener, sera cahoone, who was really great! i loved her voice, kind of like a mixture of aimee mann, cat power, and jesse skyes. really sweet alt-countryish indie rock. and hi, she had a banjo AND a pedal steel in her band. oh my goodness. oh! and fun fact: she played drums on the band of horses album, everything all the time.

the second band, mt. egypt was just okay. i wasn't really feelin' it, but they weren't bad either.

then it was time for band of horses - heyo! i think i might have to make a seperate blog entry for that though. this is getting out of control.

after the show it was time for more drinkies at the page, where we squeezed in as much misty time as we could before she left for austin and hong kong for THREE WEEKS! urgh.

__________

sunday morning, after minimal sleep (and an obligatory hungover pit stop at bob's donuts) my parents and i drove over the golden gate bridge to make a quick trek to the marin headlands for a photo op and then it was off to napa. note to self: don't drink alot of beer the night before you're supposed to go wine tasting. it kind of defeats the purpose. heh.

napa was fantastic - the weather was awesome and we hit up a few wineries that i was familiar with and a few that were new to me, but that my parents wanted to check out. after a nice picnic lunch at v. sattui (thanks for the recommendation jojo!) we stopped by a couple more and then it was back to SF.

hi, my parents are rock stars. i was totally exhausted by the time we got back home and i actually even napped in the car! after dinner at john's grill i bid my parents adieu and went home to promptly crash out. entertaining is HARD.

__________

the parents came to meet me for lunch on monday because i had to work and then they headed out of the city to make their way home to ohio. and then i slept. for 12 hours. the end.

*i tried to post photos within this entry, but blogger is being a beotch and won't let me. here are my photos from their trip, and willo's, and misty's.

omg it is so nice outside today!

i just had lunch in south park with ryan, aubs, cameron, ted (wait, didn't i just see you guys less than 12 hours ago?!?) and jonathan and i totally did not want to come back to work! argh, it's too loverly outside this afternoon to concentrate...

as i was leaving the park i ran into e.case who was hurrying off to woodside and is embarking on his african adventure tomorrow - talk about fortunate coincidences! i got to eat outside with my peeps AND i got to see eric before he left! woot!

i am so ready for 5:00 and zeitgeist...mmmm, beer. yay. i like fridays.

one year ago today...

i started my internship at tough love...although, i guess it wasn't even technically tough love then. i can't believe it's been a year! so much has happened - we brought on three new artists/bands, i became an "actual, real life" employee (a project coordinator, no less), both josh and the subs released new (well-received) albums, we incorporated ourselves, and i increased my music biz knowledge by about 400%!!!

it's been an amazing year of accomplisments and struggles, and i can't believe i actually got a job doing what i said i was going to do when i moved out here! take that, skeptics! ha.

i am rock 'n roll.

all dulli, all the time?

i must be in a greg dulli phase or something because lately i cannot get enough of the new twilight singers album, powder burns, and his solo album that came out last year...

i missed from what i've heard from several trusted sources (including buzz & hez) was an awesome twilight singers show while i was in new york two weeks ago...dammit! i've never seen the dulli in person, but i do have a random ticket stub from an afghan whigs show at bogart's in cincinnati that was tucked inside the booklet in a used copy of black love that i got a few years ago at used kids in columbus. wow, there were alot of ohio references in that last sentence! represent!!!

anyway, back to dulli. so one morning when we were getting ready to go to comfest, zach put on amber headlights, which i was completely unaware even existed - and i have totally fallen in love with it. i bought it as soon as i got back home & i cannot stop listening to it! it's like somewhere in between the afghan whigs and what dulli is currently doing with the twilight singers. (which would make sense because it was actually recorded in 2001 & 2002, after the ultimate demise of the whigs and before blackberry belle, but wasn't released until last year because dulli shelved it after the death of his good friend (an awesome director) ted demme. hi, i am full of the knowledge.) it's not a masterpiece by any stretch, but dulli-obsessives like myself will surely dig it. uh huh.

i'm not sure why i've gone into full dulli mode as of late, maybe it has something to do with the fact that i'm feeling uber-frustrated with relationships situations right now and he's so surly that the mood of the songs is matching my moodiness and borderline bitterness. but on the other hand, he writes such sexy songs that it just makes me more frustrated! heh. i guess i really do like to torture myself with difficult men, even in my choice of music. haha.

celebrating independence.

happy fourth of july everyone!

i've decided that this year i'm going to celebrate independence day by spending a little time by myself, celebrating MY independence. since my parents were here last week/weekend and i was in NYC and ohio the week before, i've been go-go-go for over two straight weeks and this girl needs some rest! haha.

i've got my netflix (the machinist), my magazines (the new WIRED, allure, jane, domino, and lucky!), my cheesy tv (please god, let there be reruns of making the band III and the hills!), and my computer (i'm bidding on a hotly contested dress on ebay - i want it sooo bad!). sounds like the perfect day to me!!!

as social as a butterfuly as i may appear to be, sometimes i like to be by my lonesome, especially when i'm trying to figure stuff out with regards to my life (and love life, urgh). so no BBQs and brews for this girl today - maybe i'll venture out of the house for some firework action later on...but for now, time to veg out! awwwww yeah.
