don't even get me started...

last night ryan, justin, cam, buzz, and i went to the birdmonster show at bottom of the hill. they were fabulous, as always - energetic, rawktacular, kick ass, awesometastic - i could go on and on and on and on and - okay, you get the picture. there was banjo action, hat action, justin playing bass on his back action - all in all ROCKIN'. so good to see my boys, back home and at my favorite venue. WORD.

i do, however, have to break from my traditionaly forgiving and understanding criticism to say that i did not, at all, not even for a minute, like the first band, anaura. i tried not to be judgemental of the band's appearance (a polo shirt and abercrombie-esque jeans? why don't you just put on the flip flops to complete the DB uniform? heh.) b/c how you look shouldn't dictate how you sound (although, the second band, triple cobra - put on one hell of a show and totally looked the fantastically trashy & glam part.) and bagel ted said that he liked what he had heard from the EP that they sent him. i had medium-high hopes. after the first song, i was like - well, maybe i'll like the next song. but each song kept getting progressively more painful for me to bear. the singer gave off the air of being a complete DBMF - and maybe he's a nice dude, but his stage presence totally annoyed me. he made ironic guitar faces (or maybe not intentionally ironic) but couldn't pull it off. all i kept thinking to myself during their set was "college rock band on a tuesday night at a buffalo wings bar & restaurant". it's not that their musicianship was horrible - their bass player was actually quite good and he was the only thing i liked about the whole band - but their songs were like O.A.R. light. ewwwww. there were some brief hopeful moments - from what i think i can recall - but nothing could persuade me to take a liking to them. NOTHING. maybe they're just not my bag - and maybe i was just comparing them to what i knew was coming up (the bird. the monster. the birdmonster.) or maybe i've finally become a cynical music snob - but given the reaction of my fellow show goers, i wasn't the only one....
