oh yeah, i'm just that hard.

so on monday night, willo & i met up to go see brendan benson/kaiser chiefs/the cribs @ the fillmore. i am on a friggin' roll here people. if you are keeping track, this is my FOURTH trip to the fillmore in a month. rock shows rule! ugggghhhhh!!!

anyway, i met willo for dinner at le mediterranne & lo and behold, her friends ted & misty were there too! AND they were going to the show! so we all headed down to the fillmore together & proceeded to wade into the sea of 14 yr olds that had descended upon the auditorium floor. i guess i underestimated the mass-appeal of the chiefs or something, because the place was pizzaked with girls & boys who were psyched to be out past curfew on a monday night...i used to be one of those kids, dammitt! where did the last 10 years go? waaaaaaaah.

the cribs were already playing when we got in, and they were a'ight. the singer/guitarist was wearing a girl's polo shirt, which willo & i were perplexed about. i mean, it's kinda sexy when guys wear smallish tee shirts, but women's tennis apparel? i don't think so. i know that has nothing to do with the music, which was catchy and full of energy, by the way. they were cool, and i actually really liked one of their songs (and i can't remember the name of it! crap!), but overall they weren't really my cup of tea. and i was distracted by the shirt.

so after the cribs set, willo & i weaseled our way closer to the stage in anticipation of brendan benson's set...i have been lovin' his album since i got it about two months ago & i just got willo addicted to is as well, so we were pumped!!! whoo hoo, brendan benson! rock on! uh, but really not so much. i was so disappointed! not in the music, b/c it was a solid set & his voice sounded great and all. loooove his voice. but there was absolutely zero interaction with the audience & he looked kinda bored. maybe it was due to all the tiny girls up front who could've cared less about him, but wouldn't move for his set b/c they didn't want to lose their place up front for the kaiser chiefs, but still...c'mon brendan! we love you! give us some personality yo!!! puh-puh-puh-puhleeeeeeze!

anyway, after bb made his way off stage, willo & i decided (well, willo decided for me - i was turning into grumpy old lady who can't handle being around high school kids!) to stay put for at least the beginning of the kaiser chiefs set. willo assured me that they would be worth it, so i obliged. but this stupid, freakin' kid in front of us, who keep laying on me (okay, well leaning on me is more accurate) when he needed to talk to his sister/friend/whatevs and progressively pushing back farther & farther into my personal space, well anyway he totally gave me a dirty look & i caught him, the bugger, so i called him out...yeah, that's right. i'm picking on 15 yr old skinny white kids now. but he totally deserved it & was such a baby about it...we exchanged words & then he told me that my accent (uh, what accent would that be?) was annoying and that i should stop talking so loud. excuse me? we are at a rock show fool! the music is loud. and maybe if you weren't standing directly on top of me, you wouldn't be able to hear me anyway! get some gig manners, asap kid! ahhhhh!

okay, i'm done venting now. (and btw, no 15 yr old boys were harmed in this story.)

so where was i? oh yes, the kaiser chiefs...oh my bejesus, they were GREAT! i was very impressed & they were soooo the opposite of b. benson. totally engaging the crowd, and the lead singer, ricky, was soooo cute with his little hip hugger jeans (although, boys please note, no amount of ass crack showing is sexy. ever. it just isn't. hike up those knickers!). you can read more about the show from willo and misty too. i'll just sum it up as fantabulorific. good stuff.

show photos, courtesty of miss willo, here.

updates de la musica.

okay, so i've seen a few shows over the past few weeks and have failed to post diddly-squat about them...i know you have all been heartbroken and now i will make like toni braxton and fill you in! (oh lord, that was a HORRIBLE segue!)

okay, let's see...first there was brazilian girls with my sweet willo-kins, which actually was probably a good show, but i was suffering from a massive migraine that made me feel ill and didn't really enjoy the show as much as i should have. total bummer too, b/c i was really looking forward to the show since i had been jamming out to their disc for a weeks prior to the show.

afterward, willo and i were going to head to her friend's birthday party, but we were both rather mellow and lame, so we just went home to our respective pj's and beds!

then, last wednesday, i happened upon tickets to the kings of leon/secret machines show at the fillmore! sweeeeeeet. i had missed KoL twice before - once in columbus when the show was a measly five dollars, and then again when i first moved out here (and couldn't afford a ticket!), so i was uber-pumped to get in to the show. (props to dz for hooking me up!)

i was definitely NOT disappointed...the whole night was kick-ass, and my friend noah, who is the BIGGEST KoL fan i know, took me out to dinner as thanks for letting him tag along! awesome! we went to pizza inferno on fillmore and had tasty self-created pizza delights accompanied by refreshing beer. we headed over to the fillmore after dinner and walked in about 2 minutes before the secret machines set. they totally lived up to my expectations and then some, and i was actually rather impressed. the dudes were spot on and my current (and ever-changing) rock star crush has now officially been bestowed upon their guitarist!

not to mention that their drummer is f'n crazy and sounds like he's playing with logs. AND they had probably one of the best light shows i've ever seen...so connected to the music & the whole vibe they had going. and that says alot b/c usually i'm like "who the eff cares about the lights? it's all about the music, man!"

anyway, so after a great set by the secret machines, the kings finally came on stage and played a solid, rockin' show that i danced my little hiney off to! no surprises (which would be my only complaint...slim-to-no improvisation or jamming out, which was sort of a disappointment) and they played pretty much everything off their two albums, including "california waiting" which was a pivotal song on my "movin' out to cali mix". so yeah, it was just an all-out RAWK show. i'm so glad i finally go to catch them, as they've been on my list for a while...

and now i get to cross them off. another notch in the proverbial show-going bedpost.

(to be continued...)

happy birfday, ecase!!!

today is my lovely friend eric benham case's 26th birthday!!! yay!

yes, i am jealous that he is a whole whopping three months younger (and more vibrant) than i. poo.

last night case's awesome roommate ozlem threw a *surprise* birthday party for him at their humble abode...albeit the surprise wasn't one of the "jump out from behind the couch & scare the bejesus out of the birthday boy" variety, but rather the "a bunch of my friends keep showing up at my house, randomly, and i can't imagine why!" sort. the stubborn boy wouldn't leave his place, even after ozlem told him she had a hot date & needed to use the apartment for said encounter! duh e.!!!

anyway, 'twas a splendid evening with splendid food, friends, and conversation. i still don't have a digi camera yet (listen, this girl ain't made of money okay?!?), but buzz already has some photos up on his flickr account. check 'em out! (especially the one of the fabulous cake that ozlem made - unbeliveable!)

alrighty then.

random!

yesterday afternoon i received a voicemail message that was most definitely a blast from my past...

i had my phone on vibrate, so i didn't hear it ring, but when i checked my phone i had a missed call from none other than the infamous josh lipson! now, i haven't spoken to josh in about two years, and just the other day i was going through my phone and deleting numbers that i no longer need/ use, but for some reason i kept his number because i though, eh, maybe i'll use it someday.

(a bit of backstory here: i dated josh, briefly, about three years ago. he was an absolute blast to be around, but NOT good bf material! ahem. anyway, we remained friends, but then he moved to san diego and we just sort of gradually lost touch.)

i didn't even know if josh had the same phone number, since he's been living in socal for awhile, but apparently he does! it was such a shock to see his little name on my missed call list! so i gave him a call back and found out that he was in columbus and called to see if i wanted to meet up...i informed him that i could not, because i was in san francisco silly! he's still living in san diego and i told him to give me a call when he gets back so we can catch up! yay!

so random!!! but great. it totally made my day, and i can't believe that we both kept each other's numbers after so long. it's nice to know that some boys still remember my fabulousness! *wink*

awesome.

jack black on the x-files! who knew?!?

tonight is a good night.

perplexed.

okay, so i continue to be confused by boys and their words/actions:

let's say, hypothetically, that a girl met a boy, and they hit it off, and the boy told the girl all sorts of things like that the girl was a) cute b) smart c) interesting. and let's say that maybe this girl and this boy were at a party, and whenever the boy had to leave go do something or talk to other people, said boy always found said girl and came back and talked to her ALL NIGHT. and said boy seemed interested, and said that he wanted to hang out again sometime, like perhaps go get coffee or go to the park and hang out. which, made said girl THINK that he was interested and sincere, because he didn't use the typical "dinner and/or movie" line. and maybe this boy ALSO said some other stuff that would make this girl think that he was for real, and not just playing her. and this boy and this girl maybe ended up making out a little bit. and when said girl left to go home, said boy asked if it was okay to call her tomorrow. and the girl said yes. because she trusted this boy and why would someone ask to call if they didn't have every intention of doing so?

but the boy never called.

excuse my french, but WHAT THE F#CK?!?! if i were this girl, i'd be confused and kind of pissed off. why are boys such big fat liars?!?!? do they really think we're that stupid?

shit like this makes me NEVER want to date again...i mean, if i were the girl in question, that is...

brownies.

a-ha! i bet you thought this post was going to be about those chocolately mood elevators that i'm always talking about, huh? well it is, sorta. but only by association...

i just found out that the beloved brownie's bakery on front street in marietta caught fire this past saturday night & has essentially been destroyed. oh man! this totally sucks! brownie's is like a landmark in marietta. this is a town tragedy, my friends. uh, i'm serious.

you can read about the whole dealio here, if you even care. which unless you're from marietta, you probably don't. but whatevs.

one of my fondest memories of my childhood is being allowed to go to brownie's after my mom got off work (she conveniently worked right next door), getting donuts holes (mmmm, tasty!) and going home & watching tina turner videos on mtv (one - my parents were cool enough, or misguided enough, to let me watch mtv as a four year old; two - i'm sure there were other videos on mtv at the time, but all i can remember is "what's love got to do with it" for some reason. yes, i know, this explains ALOT!)

all this talk about brownies & donuts has made me hungry.

vacation summation.

in brief:

saturday, june 25 - woke up at 5:45 am for my 6:00 am flight. crap! rushed to the airport (thanks to leslie's dynamic driving skills), made friends with some airline dude who allowed me to skip the ginormous line, got on a standby flight via chicago, didn't get on, got on another standby flight via st. louis, did get on that one, had to get on yet another standby flight to dayton, ohio, prayed to the god of standby passengers that i got on the flight so i wouldn't be stranded in st. louis, my prayers were answered, landed in dayton at 9:00 pm EDT where my sweet, sweet uncle jim picked me up, drove me to the columbus airport to claim my luggage that had gone on the earlier flight, drove me to sara lynn & jon's, the end.

oh, after a refreshing face washing session (ooooh! refreshing!), s*lynn, j5, & i all headed over to andyman's treehouse to see tim easton play and met up with nupur, scuba steve, kendra, kelly, maureen, russell, and el jefe. i had many beers. :)

sunday, june 26 - COMFEST!!!

monday, june 27 - wednesday, june 29 - partied it up in the c-bus with my mates (s*lynn, art, miah, jeff, j5, etc.)

thursday, june 30 - friday, july 1 - chilled with my parents & bros in marietta. ate alot of food. gained 10 lbs.

saturday, july 2 - monday, july 4 - family reunion in the secluded hills of pipestem state park in west virginia. drank beer, ate food. gained 10 more lbs.

monday, july 4 - flew back to san francisco with minimal incident. got to see a lightning storm AND fireworks from above. pretty neat, if you ask me, but i am a nerd. oooh, meteorology & pyrotechnics! fascinating!!!

the end.

bass in your face.

no, not bass as in "i caught you a delicious bass". bass as in rob base & dj EZ rock my peoples. BASS.

i think it's about time for be to start up my bass lessons again. does anyone know of a good instructor in the bay area (that isn't too expensive, a girl's gotta eat) so that i may resume my eternal funkyness and annoy my neighbors?

ah thank ya.

a few things.

so i know i need to post some stuff about my "vacation" to ohio, but that will take too long & i don't have alot of time right now!!! however, i do have something to say about...

jessica alba - what's up with her being on the cover of every single friggin' magazine on the planet? seriously, i've heard of promoting a movie (fantastic four), but this is ri-eff'n-diculous!!! she's on the cover of rolling stone, allure, self, and i'm sure about 10 more periodicals!

while i was stranded at the airport two saturdays ago (story to come), i went to pick up some reading materials and was greeted by about a hundred jessica alba's staring back at me! and then, on my flight home, she was on the cover of the airline magazine! wtf?!?!? the airline magazine, people. she's everywhere, and i'm scared.

that new movie with john "ali's future husband" cusack & diane lane - i think it's called "must love dogs" or something like that, which is a horrible title for a film. but i don't care, my love for the man who played lloyd dobler is undetered by silly movie names. i think i will go see this. yep.

the BAGeL Radio compilation ted gave me two weeks ago - i have pretty much been listening to this non-stop since it came into my life. sooooo good! i like music.

wearing a scarf & winter jacket in july - this midwestern gal is puzzled by the intricacies of san francisco "summer" weather.

bob schneider's website - oh my god, this is my new favorite music/artist/band website! (thanks for the heads up, nick!) please do check it out, you will be amazed at it's amazing entertainment properties!
