retro-blogging.

so i totally forgot to post about my adventures with the parental units when they were here!

it was their first visit to san francisco, so i was psyched to show them around. and so that they could see why i love this city so much! they arrived thursday afternoon and i met them at their hotey for happy hour cocktails (awww yeah, my parents now how it's done!). we made a quick pit stop at mi casa so they could see that i don't live in a shack and then it was off to dinner at my favorite thai restaurant - little thai! when we got to the restaurant, there weren't any tables free, so they let us sit at the bar and wait, where one of the servers/managers totally fawned all over my parents and kept telling them about every single dish that came out of the kitchen and let us have free "samples" of the drinks. score! my parents thought i was a rock star. haha.

friday after work i again met my parents at their hotel for happy hour (hey, it was friday) and then we went to la mediterranee for dinner. yummmm. so good! my mom had never partaken of genuine greek fare, so it was super fun to make her eat a whole bunch of stuff. yeah mom, dooo it! after dinner we were sort of worn out, so we made a quick stop into one of the jazz clubs on fillmore and then headed to my house, where we watched the food network (hi, my stepdad obviously had control of the remote) and i fell asleep on the couch w/ my mom. awwwww.

it was a good thing i went to bed early b/c i had to get up at the crack o' saturday and make my way down to meet my parents for bruch at market bar @ the ferry building. i had never been there, but had heard good things about it, so i figured what the heck. plus, i thought it would be neat for the parents to see the farmers market and enjoy the lovely weather. after scrumptous brunch we walked to pier 39 to catch our ferry to alcatraz! now, normally i am not excited about touristy things, but i've been waiting to go to alcatraz for a year and a half. it's totally a parent thing to do.

alcatraz was really cool - the audio tour is done really well and it's super interesting and neat. haha, neat. it's really windy and cold though, so bring a jacket or a sweater should you ever decide to go. um, a public service announcement by ali watkins. yes.

after we got back to the mainland, it was time to quicky run home and change for dinner at tsunami sushi with willo, misty, hez, and jojo! yay! parents-meet-the-friends-dinner!!! it was so much fun - and yummy delicious. we got my mom to eat her very first piece of sushi, after much coaxing. and my friends got to hear embarassing stories about yours truly growing up. nice.

saturday night we already had plans to go to the band of horses show at the independent, so my parents made their way back to their hotel to hit up some jazz and blues bars and willo & i made our way over to the independent - after a quick pit stop at fly bar to meet up w/ brian, we got to the indy just in time to catch the first opener, sera cahoone, who was really great! i loved her voice, kind of like a mixture of aimee mann, cat power, and jesse skyes. really sweet alt-countryish indie rock. and hi, she had a banjo AND a pedal steel in her band. oh my goodness. oh! and fun fact: she played drums on the band of horses album, everything all the time.

the second band, mt. egypt was just okay. i wasn't really feelin' it, but they weren't bad either.

then it was time for band of horses - heyo! i think i might have to make a seperate blog entry for that though. this is getting out of control.

after the show it was time for more drinkies at the page, where we squeezed in as much misty time as we could before she left for austin and hong kong for THREE WEEKS! urgh.

sunday morning, after minimal sleep (and an obligatory hungover pit stop at bob's donuts) my parents and i drove over the golden gate bridge to make a quick trek to the marin headlands for a photo op and then it was off to napa. note to self: don't drink alot of beer the night before you're supposed to go wine tasting. it kind of defeats the purpose. heh.

napa was fantastic - the weather was awesome and we hit up a few wineries that i was familiar with and a few that were new to me, but that my parents wanted to check out. after a nice picnic lunch at v. sattui (thanks for the recommendation jojo!) we stopped by a couple more and then it was back to SF.

hi, my parents are rock stars. i was totally exhausted by the time we got back home and i actually even napped in the car! after dinner at john's grill i bid my parents adieu and went home to promptly crash out. entertaining is HARD.

__________

the parents came to meet me for lunch on monday because i had to work and then they headed out of the city to make their way home to ohio. and then i slept. for 12 hours. the end.

*i tried to post photos within this entry, but blogger is being a beotch and won't let me. here are my photos from their trip, and willo's, and misty's.
