the uniform.
i was chatting with buster today about what i call the SF geekyfantastic boy's uniform - witty or graphic tee/hoodie or track jacket/designer jeans/designer sneakers - seriously, i know more than a few boys who wear this get up on a daily basis. don't get me wrong, there is nothing inherently bad about it, it's just a fashion formula that many a geek subscribes to. like hipsters wearing bandanas or chain wallets. they still do that, right?
anyway, this got us (buster & i) thinking about what OUR uniforms are. buster thinks his would most likely be "a 'me'* button up (and a blazer if it's cold) with cheap jeans and medium expensive shoes". mine would probs be a short, empire-waisted dress, tights, boots, and a dangley necklace or some interesting earrings. and of course my rings and black rubber hot topic-like bracelets. they're not emo, okay?!?
i tried to search flickr for a good photo of my uniform but i can't find a full length for maximum effect...now i know why willo is all about the full length shot! full length is the new extended arm shot, doncha know. plus, flickr tells me that i also seem to wear skinny jeans & flats quite a bit (despite what mike thinks). heh.
isn't it amazing that most people really do have a uniform? i bet you do and you don't even know it! it's not a bad thing, it's a style that one becomes comfortable with, accustomed to. you know what works for you or how you want to present yourself and you go with it. it would be interesting to see what other people think their uniform is (comment, puh-leeeeze?)...and buster & i are going to work on a flickr meme, if there isn't one already. as soon as he stops gallivanting around new york with his awesome lady, that is.
*when i asked buster what a "me" button up was, he said "somewhere between cowboy and flowers...ideally with multiple overlapping fabrics or patterns or a tiny DETAIL.". okay then, there ya go.

i have two main uniforms -- a vintage dress with belt: http://www.flickr.com/photos/maile/1076404244/
or a sweater with cords/jeans:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/willotoons/255316753/ these days, i mostly wear the dress.
ben and i were just talking about this the other day! mine is either jeans and a polo or a multi-colored skirt and a black or pink shirt (i own a lot of black and pink shirts... i figured that out in grad school this summer when ALL of the shirts in the drawer were those colors... except one lonely blue one).
Hmmm...I guess mine would either be jeans rolled up, docs, rock belt and a kick ass t-shirt (mostly rock or willotoons. OR...dress, tights, docs and little sweater.
I think. Right?
.....ok, either docs or giant clunky boots with the dress mentioned in my last comment. Or sometimes skinny jeans w/boots and a long shirt. Can you have 4 uniforms??
haha... I'm laughing at Misty's comments... can't have just one! :p
My uniform is usually a pair of (Lucky) jeans, a tshirt (like Misty, usually a WilloToons tee or a band t-shirt... or something from Forever 21 or Old Navy), belt and flats. I'm also in love with my new white vintage looking bag. I need to take a photo of it.
Hee hee.
I wear a knit-type dress with a short jacket over it almost all the time.
