it's like, new wave, in french.
last thursday i dragged cam & jesse with me to see the nouvelle vague show that the submarines were playing. actually, cam got to be my plus one and jesse won tickets on the radio so everyone got in free! wheee!!!
it was so exciting to see the subs up on stage at the fillmore! they sounded great (and played a new song!), looked absolutely adorable (as always), and i think also won the crowd over, if i do say so myself. and i do. oh yes, i do.
i've never been in the upstairs "main" dressing room at the fillmore, but i must say that i do enjoy the support dressing room. semi-spacious, a little couch action, mixed nuts, beer. delightful!
after the subs set came the frenchies - and i say that in the most endearing of ways. ze french, they are soooo, french! but i am, le tired. hee hee. the girls in the band are little hotties - i mean, come on, they're french - wouldn't they have to be? one of them wore this FABULOUS black fringy flapper dress with hot pink trim and i decided that i'm going to be a flapper for halloween based solely on how hot she looked. i really liked the variation in vocals - one gal had a very sweet, delicate voice and the other (hottie in the black dress) had a deeper, raspier, and more soulful voice. i love girls with big, booming voices like that! superfantastique! the third chica used to be a dancer and played all sorts of instruments, including the ACCORDIAN. lurve the accordian kids. especially in my french new wave indie rock.
one interesting note about nouvelle vague, if you are not familiar, is that they are known for their bossa nova influenced interpretations (covers) of 80's songs like "love will tear us apart" and "heart of glass" and so on (AND a pretty sweet cover of the dead kennedy's "too drunk to fuck" heck yeah! w00t!)...i remarked that if an american band were doing this, they'd be doing it at weddings or sports bars in the midwest, not the fillmore...but they are french, so we love them! c'est le vie! bon appetit! au contraire! enchante! joie de vivre! mais oui! bien sur! zut alors! sacrebleu! comme ci, comme ca! that's all i can remember right now!
i CAN count to ten in french still though...un, deux, trois, quatre, cinq, six, sept, huit, neuf, dix!
