music snob question #2.

You don't like doing that, you're in a stage where you want it to change, but one morning you wake up in a strange bed. You're woken because the person you're next to is getting up in the morning and you feel ashamed for going back on your word to yourself. You hear the person starting the shower, hear the blinds open, hear some rattling in the kitchen...and you're looking at your phone for the time, plotting on how to leave...but then you hear the person put a record on the turntable (the hiss sound prior to the music) and then the song that starts playing actually makes you change your mind about wanting to get out of there. What song could make you change your mind about a perceived mistake? (remember, it would have to be on vinyl, and more likely than not, the first song on one of the sides)"
ooooh, i like this one. i have a lot of records that might make me change my mind about a random hookup - hee. i can't choose a number one, so i'll just list them all...boys, take notes. ;)
"mojo pin" - jeff buckley, grace
this entire album might be my favorite ever. ever ever. like, if i was held at gunpoint and someone asked me what my favorite album was, i would most likely blurt out grace. "mojo pin" isn't my favorite track, but just playing this album would at least make me think that this dude is cool.
"everything hits at once" - spoon, girls can tell
girls can tell is the best spoon album there is. don't try to argue with me.
"tiny spark" - brendan benson, lapalco
criminally underrated album from a criminally underrated artist. if you don't have this album yet, i implore you to go get it. and you'll realize that you don't just like the raconteurs because it's "jack white's side band".
"do it again" - steely dan, can't buy a thrill
the dan's first album, so i'd have to give props to the boy for owning it - and it's highly likely that he'd have this on vinyl. and everyone knows i love the dan - and boys who also love the dan. ahem, are you still taking notes?!? hee hee.
"son of sam" - elliott smith, figure 8
i didn't really discover elliott smith until figure 8 came out - i mean, i knew who he was but never got into him until this album. anyway, this track is instantly recognizable and catchy as hell. that intertwined guitar and piano intro - good stuff.
"i am trying to break you heart" - wilco, yankee hotel foxtrot
yay wilco. probably my favorite band (after steely dan) and an incredible album. that is all.
*ooooh, i have one more - cause it just came on my iTunes shuffle and i eff'n love this song and this album - "silence kit" - pavement, crooked rain, crooked rain. you can't go wrong with pavement. okay, now i'm done.

yes, I'd go w/ spoon or pavement, too.
For my answer I tried to pick songs that made me think, "wow, this guy knows good music" in a "wow, he's into awesome new music and would be into going to shows, too, probably" kind of way. Most classics like steely dan - or more mainstream stuff like elliot smith & wilco, anyone might have layin around, ya know?
That said, Jeff Buckley's a great choice because his fan base are pretty true, appreciative music fans (and fans of his work).

Addendum: Not that Elliot Smith is *that* mainstream, but "B" would have way more interesting to me playing Matt Pond PA or Cloud Cult over Elliot Smith or Wilco, ya know?
haha - you know, i did the opposite and picked songs/bands that meant more to me in the long term than current bands i'm into...hence the steely dan and the wilco (actually, not *that* many people like steely dan - i've found they are a rare breed and are true music lovers - the dan is kind of obtuse for some people to get - not us, of course! hee hee.)
i can always school someone in the ways of rock if they have a good "base" of taste. heh.

This is true. In addition, the best song on girls can tell is Anything You Want.
yes yes yes! "anything you want" is the best track on that album. they played it at the show at the greek and i squealed with delight. SQUEEEEEAL!
