logic will break your heart.
no no no - i'm not heartbroken, this time. ;)
thursday night willo & i went to see the stills at the independent and omgeeeeee, they were so good. i love love L.O.V.E. the stills. logic will break your heart is still one of those albums that i listen to on a regular basis. for the last three years. like, once a week. or twice a day. whatevs. i love it.
willo had seen them about three years ago the first time they came through SF, but i had not been privy to their live musical stylings. i was soooooooo freeeeeeakin' excited. but before i could rock out to my canadian boys, i had to watch the opening bands set. but this was a totally awesomtacular good thing, because the opening band was land of talk, also canandian, and also kick ass.
i had listened to some of their stuff on myspace earlier this week was totally stoked on them. i also think i remember reading something about them on stereogum a few weeks ago, and i always trust scott stereogum because he loves steely dan as much as i do. you don't have to follow my logic, you just have to smile and nod.
luckily willo & i made it to the independent in time to catch the last couple songs of their set. w00tah! it's a three piece, led by a fuckin' awesome rock chick named elizabeth. not only is she amazingly gorgeous (and i loved her jewelry!) she kicks ass on guitar and has a really engaging stage presence. her voice is rather sweet - it kind of reminds me of annie from giant drag - and she has a sort of achy delivery, which is lovely. they played a few new songs, but ended their set with my favorite track (that i've heard so far) called "all my friends" - yay, i song i know! they were so good i bought their cd. which you know that i never do at shows, so hello, these kids are obviously rockin.
awwww yeah, and now it's time for the stills. yippee!!! i was worried that they'd play a bunch of new stuff (which i have and i like, but of course i wanted to hear some older songs too) but they did a really good job of balancing tracks from both albums. and i can tell you exactly when they played because - holla - i got the set list (thanks willo!):
it takes time
lola stars & stripes
gender bombs
the mountain
helicopters
oh shoplifter
in the beginning
changes are no good
halo the harpoons
yesterday never tomorrows
she's walking out
retour a vega
love & death
encore:
still in love song
killer bees
yay yay yay. i kind of thought that the band would be too cool for school and rockstarish or moody because, you know, their songs are kind of dark. but they were the cutest! they seemed to be having a blast and were all chatty with the crowd and appeared to be genuinely grateful that people were there to see them.
canadians are neat.
i also found out who the heck looks good in boy's skinny jeans = the stills. must be a rock star thing.
