more blogging about music.
yay - happy days of music pontification have returned.
i'll recap this past weekend's evening (and day) activities soon - but i wanted to make sure i didn't forget to blog about some great music that i've recently discovered. w00t!
over the past two weeks or so, i've acquired a great deal of new music and i've listened to pretty much NONE of it b/c of my busy social schedule - which is a damn shame. so yesterday, when ben & i were driving up to marshall (aka land of intermittent cellphone reception) for yummy oysters, i decided to bring along a few discs for us to check out. road trips are the best for this sort of stuff - and it's kind of like work for me - which i can't complain about, y'know? things *could* be worse. heh.
i've totally been into this kyle andrews disc amos in ohio. the title track is so addictively catchy. *i am listening to it right now* it's a mixture of singer-songwritery goodness and little electronic blips and beeps and embellishments. his voice reminds me alot of pete yorn - musically, he also kind of reminds me of scapegoat wax (does anyone else remember him? "hello, allison"!!!), but his more poppy, less hip-hoppy tunes. i am totally digging him. big time. good road trip music, it reminds me of sunshine. haha. eff'n hippie. ;)
another disc we checked out was the proclivities - which is really just this one dude, matt douglas, who is friends with josh (ritter) and sam & zack from josh's band (who also play on the album). this is a really beautiful record - soulful folk rock, great arrangements, and his voice is really soothing and pleasant to listen to. i realize that "pleasant" isn't the most exciting adjective to describe someone's sound, but it fits and i'm too tired to figure out a better explanation! also A+ road trip music!
the third disc we listened to was john ralston - needle bed. ANOTHER indie folk rock dude. hi, we were on a roll, okay?!? also good stuff - especially the song that i hope is the single or his label is stupid - "gone, gone, gone". i must have a thing for rock/love songs that use the work "fuck" in the them or something (see also: "come pick me up" - ryan adams. "come pick me up, take me out, fuck me up, steal my records...") because that is what totally stood out to me in the lyrics to this song when i first heard it and made me pay attention! haha.

say fuck you,
i don't need you, get out"
man, what up with that?!? must be my inner romantic aggression (?) and omnipresent confusion identifying with them or something. weird.
i'm so glad i had the opportunity to listen to this stuff - yay for awesome new music discoveries! oh, how i heart thee...
