madcap recap.
whilst i was in nyc last week, my hotel's interneto connection decided to crap out - not that i really had time to blog, but having access to the interweb would have been helpful should i have been able to steal a few precious moments to recount my tales 'o the city...
anyway, new york was AWESOME!!! awesome, and hot. not hawt. hot and sticky. mmmm, just like i like my cinnabuns. ha. where was i? oh yes, new york!
after resting up on sunday night (and recovering from willo's racous birthday party), i was refreshed and rejuvenated and ready to take on the city...and work. booooo, work. but since work was the reason i was there, i can't really boo it that much, now can i? monday night i met up with kendra in the east village where we partook of tasty european beer that i couldn't pronounce and also witnessed a very drunkle dude fall backward, over the rope that marked off the outdoor beer garden/patio, while continuing his conversation, landing flat on his back/head, still talking, still laying on his back, and then eventually getting up with the aid of our beer mistress and his friend, and then going home. hilarities. i thought that he was going to fall right on kendra and smash her (she's a wee one, that kendra case)!!! ah, good times in the big apple. on a monday night.
tuesday night after work we had some corporate sponsored party which means - FREE BOOZE!!! awww yeah. it was at jay-z's club, 4040, but i didn't see him. dang. however, i did see none other than mitch buchanan himself, in the flesh - that's right HASSLEHOFF! he is really tall, and really...shall we say - taut? like in the face. perhaps a lift has been had...i ain't sayin', i'm just sayin'. wow. celebrities sighting are neat. haha.
can i just say this again? hasslehoff. oh my goodness. kristin would've died.
wednesday night i met up with meryd, ant, and debi - old pals from my days at cayuga. meryd was my co-counselor my first summer at band (no, not band camp) and fun fact: she grew up in pottsville, pa - home of the yuengling brewery! ant lives in london and i haven't seen him in six years! that's a long time. he looks exactly the same. but with less hair. heh, sorry ant! :)

debi g, ant, and i - reunited!!!
i met up with the cayuga crew near debi's place, but she had to go home and go to bed because she's like an adult with a job and stuff. booooooo. med, ant, and i ended up bar hopping (three!) up and down debi's street and i don't think i had the same variety of beer more than once the entire time. bad news bears, my friends. bad news. we stayed out until 4:00 in the am, because in new york you can do that sort of thing and i decided the next day that if i lived in new york i'd be in big trouble...

bff!
thursday, aka hangover day, after coming home and taking a rockstar nap, i mananged to get myself together and head on over to meet debs, med, and ant for dinner at some random swedish smorgasbord sandwich restaurant. our server was hot. the restaurant was hotter. the food was eh. debi once again had to retire and the rest of us were still feeling like poo from the night before, so after a quick $3 margarita pit stop, we ended up back at my hotey room, listening to the "brit mix" cd ant made for me (a boy after my own heart!) and having a photo session on my bed. ooooh, cheeky!
it was so fanfreakintasticaly awesome seeing those kids - there is a special bond between camp counselors that can never be broken, i'm convinced. and i can go years and years without seeing them and bam! it's like we hung out and partied the night before. which i guess we did, but you know what i mean. i love you guys!!!
__________
friday morning it was up hellishly early to head to the airport and begin the second leg of my east coast tour - OHIO!!!
zach picked me up from the airport in the afternoon and we headed to my cousin's house in springboro to see my cousins, my cousin's kids (who i guess are still technically my cousins - there are way too many cousins in this paragraph), and my aunt & uncle. hi, zach + family visit = saint. haha.
after dinner w/ the fam, we made our way down to cincinnati to nick's and then over to the comet to surprise the birdmonster boys, who just happened to be in town playing a gig! yay! talk about shock & awe, i think zach birdmonster almost had a seizure when he saw me - he couldn't figure out if it was me, or if i was in ohio, or if they were in california - all in the span of about 15 seconds. 'twas a sight certainly to behold. hee hee! i got a pretty sweet photo of zmonster's new tattoo and peter bought me a drink - score! it was so great seeing those guys - and to think that i had to rock-stalk them all the way to ohio to do it. heh.
dan, who is also from the 'nati, made it out to the show and then it was officially a sausage fest - where were my show hos when i needed them?!? haha. we drank, sang, danced, almost got into a fight with a scooter gang, drank some more, rocked out, again with the drinking, again with the singing & the rocking, bought merch, and then retired (to nick's) home and promptly passed out. just another friday night in the 'nati.
saturday morning zach (not the birdmonster, the hale) and i got on the road semi-early, but were lured away from the highway by the promise of sweet, sweet bob evans breaky. down on the farm, kids. down. on. the. farm. i love bob evans and am sad that we don't have those out here. i'd probably go once a week if we did. mmm mmm good.
after rolling into columbus after what felt like a 4 hour road trip home (which actually only lasted about an hour and 45 minutes - wtf?), we cleaned our rag tag, slightly hungover (and smokey - some bars still allow smoking, believe it or not) arses up and made our way down to the festival to end all festivusesesessss - COMFEST!

awwwww yeah.
for those of you who don't know, comfest is the largest, free, volunteer-run, non-profit, and no corporate-sponsorship music and community festival in the country. it's been going on for 34 years and it's the best thing about columbus. period. all local bands, local artists, giant mugs of beer, steak on a stake (if you're into that sort of thing), funnel cakes, broccoli burgers, ice cream, hippies, bikers, gays, grandmas, indie rockers, geeks, professors, slackers, kiddies, dogs, you name it, all joined together in the spirit of comfest. i know, that sounds so hippie-dippy and it is. but it truly is an awesome experience - where else can you say "happy comfest!" for three days straight and not feel like a complete idiot. i'm telling you, it happens. you have no control over it!

bimb is da bomb.
i saw so many old friends over the two days that i was at comfest this year that i can't even begin to name them - it's like a high school reunion every year. the best encounters are when you run into people that you almost forgot you knew. and getting to see all of my friends who still live in the 'bus during the most fun time of the year in the city is a super-duper extra bonus. i love comfest!

my girls! kelly, pia, kendra, and maureen!
capping off the fantastic weekend was the obligatory sojourn to oldfield's for the hoodoo soul band (but not before a flat tire on s.lynn's car delayed our arrival by about an hour - thank goodness for zach & some good samaritans!) - always kick ass and always funky. my unofficial home away from home is a sunday night with hoodoo. awwww yeah!
shaw i know you're reading this and you're jealous. but no worries, there was no steely dan played, so you didn't miss everything. btw, senor ciampa says hi! what a doll, that man. sheesh.
monday afternoon, after some much needed sleep (what's sleep?!?), my dad and stepmom picked me up and took me to a late lunch at aladdin's (mmmmm) and then dropped me off at the airport. and while it was great seeing so many familiar faces, i must say that i was ready to come home.
__________
and that's what i realized when i was coming back to san francisco - this really is my home now. it's taken me a year and half to settle in, but i love this city and i love my friends and i love my life and can't imagine not seeing my show hos all the time or having random rock 'n roll brunches at ted & misty's or metal sing-alongs to whitesnake or going to the hemlock for a late night drink or even taking crappy MUNI to work every morning. wow, i live here. i really really live here. and how lucky am i to be able to say that....
*p.s. photos on the way - haven't had a chance to upload them yet!
okay! they're up!
