i've been waiting for this moment all my life.
saturday night i saw silversun pickups for the second time in two weeks. as ryan so appropriately noted, i am now officially "rock stalking" them. oh hells yes.
i think they might be my new, incessantly-listened-to-band of the moment. (replacing tapes 'n tapes - sorry guys, i still love you!) in any event, i heart them. if you haven't listened to them yet, well then shame on you!

i'll have to paraphrase ted on this & i'll probably leave something out, but they're kind of like "the pixies & ______ (i forget the other band! help!) covering siamese dream", which i think is pretty accurate. all fuzzed out guitars & distortion aplenty, alot of the same chord progressions as the pumpkins too. nikki totally rocks the bass in a kim deal sort of awesometastic way. their drummer is kick ass too - i stared at him for a good quarter of their whole set. like i said, rock stalker. heh.
not only does nikki rock the bass, but she's also super nice - willo, ryan, and i chatted with her for a few seconds after their set at the merch table (free buttons & stickers! score!) about how they got their name (a liquor store in silverlake - which i actually saw the last time i was in LA and thought to myself "hmmm, i wonder if that has anything to do with the silversun pickups?" - one nerdy rock 'n roll geekin' out bonus point for me!) and how we are geektastic for noticing she was wearing the same shirt that she wore when we saw them at SXSW. yep, dorks.
*oh wait, i remember the other band now - the afghan whigs. mmmmm, dulli. and to go off on a semi-related tangent, the new twilight singers album is fan-freakin-tastic. i highly recommend.
anyhoots, after seeing them play a handful of new tracks over the last two shows i am eagerly anticipating their first full-length, carnavas, which comes out in july - and "lazy eye" is totally in the running for song of the year for me (that eff'n bass line gets me every time) - the "kissing families" of 2006? hmmm, just maybe.
my camera is still brokey, so no photos. however, i will say that it's oddly liberating to watch an entire rock show and not worry about any focus other than my eyeballs. hrrrrmmmm.
