note to self.

*stick to blogging about music. and only about music.

__________

thursday night i met willo, john, and willo's friend sam and his brother charles @ the great american music hall for the highly anticipated (well, highly anticipated to ME) supergrass show - SUP-ER-GRASS! ahhh, i love them and have wanted to see them for probably close to ten years. yowza.

let me just say that they RAWKED. w00t w00t! i was curious to see if they'd put on a good show, and i had heard from many people that they were tons of fun to see, but you never know - especially as bands get up there in the years...sometimes they get rusty. i ain't sayin, i'm just sayin'...

gaz's vocals were spot-on and i was psyched that they actually played alot of their older stuff - they were super-energetic & seemingly appreciative and total rawk stars - man, i love them!

the opening band, pilotdrift, was interesting as well. they kind of reminded me of radiohead (ok computer/kid a era) - lots of harmonized vocals, and by vocals i really mean lots of verses with "aaaaaaahhhs" and "oooooooohs" at the end. does that make sense?!? or maybe neutral milk hotel? i guess it doesn't really matter what they sound like, but they totally grew on me as their set went on and i really liked how it seemed like the music-making was a completely cooperative/collaborative effort between all five dudes in the band. it was borderline jammy, but not in an annoying way. they ended their last song with a freakin' wall of percussion - every member of the band was playing a different percussive (?) instrument and it RULED. and the guitarist played an SG, so he obviously knows what's up . haha.

last night w, ted, john, and i went to the wedding present/tim fite show @ slim's and i would just like take a moment to propose a toast to the healing powers of rock 'n roll music. okay, i'm done. on with the rock -

tim fite is a fantastical, kooky, nut-job awesome person. haha. he eff'n rocks and it was honestly probably one of the most entertaining sets i have ever seen in my life. that dude is uber-creative & crazy. during the set, he had a backdrop of himself playing along to the songs with illustrated lyrical flourishs interspursed and finger-counting interludes between songs (i know, it makes no sense, it's just one of those "you had to be there" things!) i was literally grinning ear to ear the whole time & trying to contain my laughter - it's not that the songs weren't great (b/c they were) or that he was funny (which, he kind of was, but in a completely, "oh my god i can't believe how effing awesome this is" sort of way), it was just so freakin' COOL. yeah, cool. and he eff'n rocked the mic while wearing a searsucker suit & SUSPENDERS. hells to the yeah. :)

in between sets he came by to do a station id for ted, and willo & i were like "tim fite!!! you RULE!!!" hahaha. i think he was a little scared.

the wedding present were kick ass as well - for the most part a really energetic set, apart from a mellow cover of "falling" (previously recorded by julee cruise) - if you are a twin peaks dork like myself then you know what song i'm talking about. hi, DORKS UNITE!

it was so awesome to be @ the show with ted, who is a wedding present freak, and who told me the most awesomest "...and that's how we met" story about he & misty. and the wedding present. i want a story like that!!!

i was also made aware of the fact that i was 7 years old when the wedding present released their first album. um, yeah. i love it that some people are so committed to music that they rock out continually for 20 years and show no signs of stopping. to me that is an inspiration - yaaaaay music!!!

and now i have to go get all socialited up for meera's "snob hill soiree". ta ta dahlings, and have a loverly evening....
