poor, neglected blog.
(and thus begins the post-a-palooza...)
hot shit! i've been so busy with my fabulous life that i have been, very apologetically, neglecting to post about the aforementioned fabulousity that has ensued. i shall aspire to brevity henceforth, but i'm guessing that won't happen. because i am very verbose, that's why.
ahhhh, let's see. where to begin? i've been to a good amount of shows over the past few weeks (shocking, i know) so let's start there. i'll play that fun game where i recap each show in three five (okay, ten???) sentences or less. awwwww yeah! you know you love it...and off we gooooooo!
15 january - the helio sequence/the can't see/black fiction @ the rickshaw
i missed black fiction but the willster said they were good & bought their cd, so i will check them out. the can't see were just okay. the helio sequence RULED and benjamin weikel is a freakin' KICK ASS drummer & willo remarked that brandon summers sometimes sounds like neil finn (crowded house, split enz, the finn brothers), whom we both adore, & i think he plays guitar like my dearest cross-country road trip companion, bimb barbie.
18 january - mark kozelek/matt costa @ great american music hall
lyne went to this with me because, like yours truly, she is an uber-red house painters/sun kil moon/m.kozelek fan...gooooo lyne! matt costa was really good, he played a pretty varied set & changed his songs up quite a bit which made it way more interesting to watch/listen to. on a side note, he is also not too hard on the olde eyes, ifyouknowwhatimean. hee hee. i saw him after the show and gave him a pat on the shoulder and a "good set!". lyne wanted to hump him, but that's a different matter. mark kozelek was faaaabulous (just as i had anticipated) and was actually quite funny - much to my surprise. i thought he'd be all dour & depressed & gruff, but he made jokes! that were funny! wheee! AND thank god he played "carry me ohio" or my psychic link to the band/artist onstage that makes them play my favorite song streak would have been broken. plus, i made lyne stay until the very end, even though she was reeeeally tired (it was the last song of the encore), because i told her if i left & he played it i'd never forgive myself. thanks for pulling through for me there, m. kozelek!
19 january - editors @ popscene
okay, so this was my first popscene experience. and i've never felt older in my entire life...nor have i been colder while waiting in line for almost 2 godforsaken hours to get in. willo & i showed up at 9:30ish to get in line, and mai met up with us there, AND we met some spanish dude named vincenzo or vincente or something while we were waiting. hello, random! anyway, editors were, quite honestly, kind of underwhelming for me. i mean, they are tight & together and definitely know how to play and sound good - but i just wasn't blown away by them. call me crazy - maybe i'm getting old or something. i dunno. oh, and the guitarist looked like he had not seen daylight in about 4 1/2 months. he kind of scared me.
21 january - the elected/minipop @ bottom of the hill
there was another band that played before minipop, but i can't remember their name. and they were like, a dub band. which normally i wouldn't mind, b/c this girl has been known to rock the dub - but yeah. i wasn't really diggin' it. when i got to BoTH, misty & ted were already there, and then jem came, and willo, so the whole two live crew was present and ready to rock. misty warned me that blake (yeah, i just called him "blake" like he was my bff! haha!) had a moustache, but i was even more shocked when i actually saw the moustache in question AND that he had a BERET on too. *gulp* i commented that maybe wearing the beret w/ moustache combo was an LA thing or something - i hope.

show ho's UNITE!!!
