drag your blanket blindly.

this past thursday willo & i hit the jeff tweedy solo show (w/ wilco drummer glenn kotche as the opener) at the fillmore with willo's friend dan, from cincinnati (ohio represent!), who just happened to be visiting and who also happens to be the biggest wilco fan EVER. (amazingly even more so than myself - quite an achievement!)

let me just begin by saying that i love jeff tweedy. he is, what the kids these days might say, 'da bomb'. and by 'the kids' i mean 'me'. because i don't really think kids use the phrase 'da bomb' that much anymore.

i will refrain from gushing too much about the tweedy, but he is so goddamn awesome!!! he played for a solid two hours and honestly it just flew by due to my mesmerization. usually i'm like, okay yay, guy with a guitar, i'm bored after about 24 minutes...but not with j. tweedy. no way. he played a smattering of newish wilco stuff and even some uncle tupelo! allllriiiight. i can't really remember the entire setlist but i DO remember: theologians, a shot in the arm, i'm the man who loves you, she's a jar, i am trying to break your heart, heavy metal drummer, california stars, aaaaaand, ummmmm...yeah my memory isn't as great as it used to be! i DO remember that he played "muzzle of bees", which continued my streak of psychically messaging band/artists to play the song i want to hear most (see also: mark kozelek show last month). and he played "spiders (kidsmoke)" which was really interesting to hear stripped down and without all the kraftwerk-esque embellishments.

so yeah, pretty much the moral of my story is: jeff tweedy RULZ.

aaaanyway, after the show willo, dan, and i hit up the hemlock for an post-show cocktail and to swoon over the hot bartenders there. haha. well, willo & i swooned. sorry dan! all in all, a splendid night indeed! ROCK.

my photos from the night. (no shots of tweedy, left that up to the professional show photog willo!)
