i thought of another song tonight on my way home from work. don't ask me why riding MUNI made me start singing this song in my head, b/c it doesn't make sense. but i'm always singing some random song in my head anyway...so i guess it's not too far fetched. so here it is, awesometastic song #2:
van morrison - into the mystic
i can't even begin to describe what this song does to me. when i get married, i want this song to be played at my wedding. or maybe even at my funeral. or both.
van morrison is a god. his voice is so friggin' unbelievable - gruff, but also kind of sweet. i remember hearing this song when i was about 12 or 13 b/c my older cousin is a big v. morrison fan, and moondance is one of his favorite albums. most people say astral weeks is their #1 VM album, and it is quite spectacular, don't get me wrong. but for me, nothing will top "into the mystic".
i think i literally have a spiritual experience every single time i hear "iiiiii wanna rock your gypsy sooooul". i want someone to want to rock my gypsy soul! that's such an awesome way to tell someone you dig them. and he sounds so committed to it - he really means it. he's serious.
plus, this song has horns. and i'm a sucker for horns. oh! and how could i forget the bass line?!?! dang.
