things i have been pondering.
1) why do we use "the holidays" as an excuse to be nice to people? shouldn't we always be nice? i even caught myself doing something "nice" this morning when i got my coffee & put a little extra into the tip jar b/c i thought to myself "well it's the holidays". that's ridiculous!!! jesus's birthday is not the reason to be nice to people. i mean, you shouldn't do the opposite either, but what would jesus do? he would be kind to all throughout the year, not just during the weeks preceding his bday. not that i really believe in wwjd or even celebrating christmas anymore. but still.
2) this may be b/c i'm not around my family yet or b/c it's 60 degrees and rainy here in california, but i'm just not that into christmas this year (see above). it could also be attributed to the fact that my part-time job is in retail and during the holiday season people lose their damn minds and annoy the crap out of me. but really, why do we give presents on christmas anyway? what does that have to do with celebrating the birth of christ? i don't get it. i mean, it's nice to give the people you love a token of your affection every now and again, but can't that be on some other arbitrary day during the year - like august 23rd? i do like christmas lights though, they're pretty. and cookies, yummm. and i don't mean to sound ungrateful for the christmas presents that i have already received/will receive. i guess i'm just kind of in a bah humbug mood.
awww man, i'm probably going to hell now.
